The Atlanta Braves made a big trade on Tuesday and got to see a big debut as well

Welcome to August, Atlanta Braves fans! If I would have told you on March 28th that on August 1st, the Braves would be a half-game out of first place in the National League East and 10 games over .500, you’d have told me I was nuts, but here we are!

First things first, some site news
If you noticed the author on this piece, it is not a typo. After a year away from Tomahawk Take, I have returned to the site, now working in the role as co-editor. I’m very excited to be back, and trust me when I say that I would love to know what YOU want to see more of on Tomahawk Take! Those who have read my stuff before know that I’m a huge fan of the minor leagues, and that won’t change – my first piece on the Braves minor leagues will be coming this afternoon!

Kolby debuts, Braves win

He wasn’t perfect, but Kolby Allard came away with a win in his major league debut, pitching 5 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks, striking out 1. Luke Jackson offered tremendous work out of the bullpen on the night, tossing 3 perfect innings with 4 strikeouts.

On the offensive side, Ender Inciarte continued his post-All-Star Break tear, going 4-5 with a double. Ronald Acuna and Freddie Freeman each had 3 hits, Acuna’s punctuated with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Nick Markakis and Johan Camargo also homered on the night.

The series continues tomorrow with Pablo Lopez on the mound for the Marlins and Anibal Sanchez taking the hill for the Braves.

Atlanta Braves minor league action

It was a wet night throughout the Atlanta Braves minor league system on Tuesday.

Durham at Gwinnett – postponed

Birmingham at Mississippi – suspended in the top of the 3rd inning due to rain, game was 0-0 at the time

Charlotte 5, Florida 4, Game 1; Charlotte 6, Florida 3, Game 2 – The Fire Frogs were swept on the road in a doubleheader Tuesday. In game 2, Kyle Muller pitched a gem, going 6 innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 7. However, the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. Jeremy Walker did not fare so well in the second game, giving up 5 runs over 4 innings. Jared James had 5 hits over the doubleheader.

Greensboro at Rome – postponed

More from Tomahawk Take

Danville 5, Princeton 1 – Stacking their pitchers for three innings apiece, the Braves didn’t give up a hit over the last 6 innings. Ricardo Rodriguez had a pair of doubles and Greg Cullen drove in three to lead the Danville attack.

GCL Braves, DSL Braves no game scheduled

Atlanta Braves history on this day

While the 16-4 score is nice for the Braves as they smoke the Reds on this day 40 years ago in 1978, being able to lay claim to ending Pete Rose‘s 44-game hitting streak is an even bigger thing. Rose’s streak remains the National League record to this day.

That’s it, that’s all for another brilliant day of being an Atlanta Braves fan! We’ll check back in tomorrow!!
