The 2018 baseball Hall of Fame inductions are this weekend! And we’ve got one going in!!

I don’t know why, but over the past few years with Atlanta Braves greats getting inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, it always feels to me like a sense of pride…like I had something to do with it…like it’s a family member being celebrated for accomplishments.  Does anyone else get this feeling?

Chipper Jones will follow the greats of Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Bobby Cox and general manager John Schuerholz into the HOF this weekend and I really can not wait.  All five of these names have been elected into the Hall of Fame over the past four years.  It’s really been a great span.

I always told myself, when Chipper was being inducted, I would go to Cooperstown…unfortunately, that didn’t work out.  Like many of the rest of us, I’ll be watching on TV.

Speaking of, here’s a breakdown of what’s to come tomorrow.  Set your DVR’s!

When: Sunday, July 29, 2018

Where: Clark Sports Center, Cooperstown, N.Y.

Time: 1:30 p.m. Eastern

TV: MLB Network

Livestream: mlbnetwork

Sunday, July 29 is the Induction Ceremony and will be hosted by MLB Network’s Brian Kenny.

Events at Cooperstown will be going on all weekend, but the Ceremony will be on Sunday.   Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Chipper Jones and Jim Thome, will be joined by Jack Morris and Alan Trammell, who were elected by the Modern Baseball Era Committee, are all getting inducted into this prestigious group.

Chipper will be only the second overall number 1 draft pick to get into the HOF (Ken Griffey Jr is the only other player picked #1).  He ended his 19-year career with a batting average of .303, an on base percentage of .401, 468 home runs, 549 doubles, 2726 hits, 1623 RBIs, 1619 runs scored and 150 stolen bases.  Yeah, I think that qualifies as a first-ballot hall of famer!

It’s awesome to see the love and support for Chipper on social media.  It looks like Jeff Francouer and Andruw Jones are on their way up to support Chipper.

BUT, here’s the twist in this story…Chipper himself may actually miss the events.  Not because he doesn’t want to be there, but because his wife, Taylor, is due with the couples second child at any minute!

This will be Chipper’s sixth child as he announced they were pregnant right after his election in the HOF in January.  The boy’s name will be Cooper…maybe it has something to do with Cooperstown?!

The plan for Chipper in case Taylor does go into labor…Chipper is going to, or has already done-so, pre-recorded his speech.  They’ve also visited the local hospital in Cooperstown in case something happens.

“We know where we’re going if something happens,” Chipper told the Associated Press while. “Hopefully, he waits until we get back home, but it certainly would be apropos if she had him here, wouldn’t it?”

We’ll see what happens, but in any situation, I’ll definitely be watching this event!  Can’t wait to see these speeches.  I may have to get the box of tissues ready.
