The Braves looked to get back on track in Miami Monday night. Hot bats and a solid start from Sean Newcomb did just that.

The Atlanta Braves (54-43) got another solid start from starter Sean Newcomb Monday in game one of two in Miami, holding Miami to a single run in a 12-1 win.

Braves bats would have been the headline in the game, had it not been for an impressive outing from Newcomb. He gave up one run on four hits in six innings, giving up four walks and striking out five.

Atlanta got an instant pad for Newcomb with pair of runs in the first inning with a homer from Freddie Freeman that scored Charlie Culberson. It was Freeman’s 17th of the seasons.

In the second, Dansby Swanson homered for the eighth time in 2018, with a solo shot to left field, giving the Braves a 3-0 lead.

Justin Bour got the Marlins on the board in the second inning with a solo shot to center field off Newcomb, one of the few blemishes on the night for the Braves starter.

The third inning saw a pair of RBI from Johan Camargo, scoring Freeman and Nick Markakis on a line drive single, giving the Braves a 5-1 advantage.

In the sixth inning, Ronald Acuna, Jr. and Charlie Culberson got in on the action, each driving in a run for the Braves, to put Atlanta up 7-1.

Markakis extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a hit in the seventh inning in yet another multi-hit game for the All-Star. Ender Inciarte doubled home Markakis and Camargo to put the Braves up 9-1.

Shane Carle came on in relieve in the seventh, giving up a walk, but no hits or runs in an inning of work.

Atlanta added a tenth run in the eighth when Charlie Culberson singled home Acuna with his fourth hit of the evening.

Peter Moylan came on in relief in the eighth inning, recording a scoreless, hitless outing.

Acuna walked with the bases loaded in the night to score Atlanta’s 11th run. Culberson then grounded out, but drove in Swanson to put the Braves up 12-1.

Culberson had four hits, three RBI and a run on the night, giving him a career best game, offensively. Acuna, Freeman, Markakis, Camargo and Swanson each had multi-hit games with two hits apiece.

Evan Phillips came in to close things out in the ninth, finishing off the Marlins to give Atlanta win number 54 on the season.
