Scary, scary situation in the Braves Triple-A game on Thursday evening

Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Josh Ravin was struck in the head by a line drive on Thursday night.  The Gwinnett Stripers were facing the Durham Bulls and were up 3-2 heading into the 9th inning.  That’s when Ravin was called on to close out the game for the Stripers.

On the first pitch he threw, Bulls right fielder Justin Williams roped a ball right back up the middle and struck Ravin in the face.

A crowd of 10,000-plus in Durham went complete in silence.

The 30-year-old was on the ground for a while being attended to by emergency personnel, then stood on his own power and got onto the medical cart.  He was removed from the game and is undergoing test.

Ravin has appeared in two games for the Atlanta Braves this season, with giving up two hits, two runs, two walks, and one strikeout in three innings pitched.

He’s pitched the majority of the 2018 season with the Gwinnett Stripers.  He’s appeared in 18 games and currently holds a 0.00 ERA with nine walks and 30 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched.

He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 5th round oft he 2006 MLB Draft.  He stayed in the Reds minor league system until 2013 when he was selected off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers.  At the end of the 2013 season, he was granted his free agency and the Dodgers scooped him up a month later.

The Braves purchased the contract of Ravin on November 20, 2017 from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The right-hander from Chatsworth, California could have been on the verge of being called up to Atlanta prior to this injury.  A call-up will now be put on the backseat as we pray for Ravin’s health.

This is an extremely scary situation and hope somehow he could avoid a serious injury.

The Durham Bulls PA announcer tweeted this out after the game…

@PatrickKinas: Incredibly scary moment – we’re all there with you.

He saw this play first hand and said “scary moment”.  Please continue your thoughts and prayers for Josh.
