The revolving door in the Atlanta Braves’ bullpen continues to spin freely as Lucas Sims returns.
This afternoon Mark Bowman told us (Twitter link) the Atlanta Braves rotated relievers again, recalling Lucas Sims and sending Max Fried back to Gwinnett.
Fried pitched in back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four of the twelve batter faced and walking one in three innings. After the Mets series Alex Anthopoulos told XM Radio’s Casey Stern the Braves still view Fried as a starter and he’d eventually return to that role.
Sims inbound
Lucas Sim’s last visit to Atlanta wasn’t pleasant. Called up after four shutout innings in his first start of the season, he threw one-third of an inning against the Mets facing six batters and allowing three runs. That earned him a trip back to Gwinnett
He’s taken the hill in two starts for the Stripers since then throwing eight total innings. The first saw him allow three runs in 3 -1/3 innings before leaving. He followed that with a five inning two run outing on April 30.
In other news
In case you missed it Touki Toussaint is on fire. Friday he threw six shutout innings for the M-Braves striking out 10 and walking two while allowing just two hits.
After a rough start when he allowed seven runs in 2 – 2/3 IP he turned in around. In his last five starts he’s thrown 27 2/3 innings striking out 39, walking 11 while pitching to a 2.28 ERA. That Arroyo trade looks good now huh?
Last night we heard that Lane Adams signed with the Cubs after choosing free agency when the Braves designated him a week ago.
The player the Braves kept instead of Adams – Peter Bourjos – signed a minor league deal the Braves after being released.
That’s a Wrap
The bullpen won’t settle down for a while but it is on AA’s mind. In the interview on XM Stern ask him where he might look to add a player. AA said third base and the bullpen were areas needing attention so expect that to be the hot topic as the deadline approaches.
The Braves are about to take the Field against the Giants to redeem themselves after last night. I should go watch that so I’ll wrap this up and change the channel.
