Atlanta Braves: the minor league Tykes Spotlight
Introducing a new feature that spotlights some of the minor leaguers deep in the Braves farm system
This will be a weekly segment to put the spotlight on Atlanta Braves minor league players who are either having a solid season or have had a good games the previous week. As the season moves along I am hoping to add an interview with a player or two so it will not just be me giving you stats which you could look up yourself.
After a full week of minor league baseball, 3 of 4 Braves affiliates are off to a slow start.
- Class A Rome is 6-4
- Triple A Gwinnett is 2-6
- Double A Mississippi 4-6
- Advanced A Florida Fire Frogs are 3-8.
ROME STANDOUTS
Despite the slow start there are several Braves who are off to good starts. Such as Rome‘€™s 3B Jean Carlos Encarnacion, his average is .394 going 13 for 33 at the plate.
Two other Rome hitters are above .300: SS Riley Delgado is hitting .323 with 6 RBI, and OF Jefrey Ramos .314 with 4 RBI.
IN FLORIDA
The Florida Fire Frogs are having a slow start of the season at the plate as C Brett Cumberland is the only one with solid hitting numbers, Cumberland has .286 average with 3 HR.
The starting pitching has been very good for the Fire Frogs, pitchers Bryse Wilson, Joey Wentz, and Ian Anderson have solid numbers after each of their first two starts.
- Wilson (RHP) 1-0, 8.2 IP, 6 Hits, 0 ER, 10 SO.
- Wentz (LHP) has 1.00 ERA, 9 IP, 5 Hits, and 9 SO.
- Anderson (RHP) 3.12 ERA, 8.2 IP, 3 Hits, 3 ER, 12 SO.

Mississippi Braves bats have been off to a good start. OF Michael Reed has 4 SB and 8 walks to go along with his .393 average.
OF Tyler Neslony is hitting .361 with 5 RBI, 3B Austin Riley has 8 RBI & 2 HR to go along with his .294 average.
C Alex Jackson .320 with 1 HR and 5 RBI (Jackson was a 1st round pick by Seattle in the 2014 MLB Draft).
STRIPERS QUIET
You can see why Gwinnett has only won 2 games after a full week, Carlos Franco 1B is only hitter above .280 as he’€s hitting .303 to go along with his 8 RBI and 3 HR. The downside to Franco‒s start is the 14 SO in 33 AB.
The only Stripers’ starter having a solid start is Mike Soroka. Soroka is 1-0, 1.69 ERA, 10.2 IP, 8 Hits, 2 ER, and 13 SO.
Meanwhile, Aaron Blair injured his shoulder last week and is reportedly seeing Dr. James Andrews about that today… no definitive word about that just yet.
