The Atlanta Braves have made a trade – a small one – for a pitcher that can throw a 95 mph heater and could help the bullpen in 2018.
It’s been a while since the Atlanta Braves have made a trade, or any big moves really, this off-season. However, earlier today, they announced that they have made a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 26-year-old right-hander Shane Carle.
It's been 28 days since the #Braves last made a trade. That would be the 10th longest trade drought under Coppy/Hart #ColdStove

84 minutes later…
The #Braves have acquired RHP Shane Carle from the Pirates for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut last season with Colorado.

Carle (the ‘e’ is silent), originally drafted by the Pirates in 2013’s 10th round, made his debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2017, who traded for him in 2014. With the Rockies, Carle made 3 relief appearances, allowing 3 earned runs while striking out 4.
He would return to his original team when the Pirates claimed him off waivers, after the Rockies DFA’d him when they signed Wade Davis.
Carle does have some firepower in his arm. He can light his fast balls to 95 mph but usually around 93 mph, but also has a splitter up his sleeve.
VIDEO: Here's a look at new #Braves reliever Shane Carle, who will come to spring training to vie for a bullpen spot. Likely providing some organizational depth at AAA @GoStripers in 2018. https://t.co/I5S5gjehNY

He’ll be another option trying for a bullpen roll come spring. The Braves will be sending back a player to be named later or possibly some cash. However, seeing that this was more of a depth and options move, the PTBNL probably is similar in talent/experience.
New #Braves RHP Shane Carle, 26, made three relief appearances for Colorado. He holds a 4.10 ERA with 1.9 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 in 527.1 minor league innings. He was DFA'd when the #Rockies signed Wade Davis last month.

My prediction is that he’ll showcase what he has in spring and will start in AAA and will eventually come up when needed. Adding him to the roster, the Atlanta Braves 40-man roster is full.

It may not be the kind of trade you were thinking of but it’s something.
