Atlanta Braves prospect Austin Riley hits for cycle in Arizona Fall League
His power hitting abilities are the stuff of legend around the Braves minor league system, and Thursday that legend only grew.
20-year-old third base prospect Austin Riley is known for his long home runs. He isn’t, however, known as a guy who regularly speeds around the base pads for a triple. On Thursday afternoon, during an Arizona Fall League game, Riley tripled in two runs to complete the cycle.
In a game that a ridiculous amount of run production for his Peoria Javelinas versus the Mesa Solar Sox, Riley completed one of most rare accomplishments in the game of baseball.
Peoria was on the right side of a 19-4 victory. It turns out, Riley had enough RBI to win the entire game on his own. The slugger finished the day going 4-for-6 with three runs and five runs batted in.

Riley’s home run came with two outs in the third inning, and his triple came with two outs as well, dramatically driving in his fourth and fifth RBI to complete the cycle.
Splitting the 2017 season between high-A Florida and double-A Mississippi, Riley had 19 homers and 133 hits. As a member of low-A Rome’s 2016 South Atlantic League title team, Riley hit 20 home runs and had 134 hits on the year.
Another top Braves prospect had himself a game on Thursday as well, as outfielder Ronald Acuna went 3-for-4 with four runs, an RBI and a walk.
Acuna and Riley are both among the top overall prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization and remain in a small group of position players who find a share of the spotlight among an embarrassment of pitching talent.
