Atlanta Braves farm system gets more love from Baseball America

Even neck deep in scandal and uncertainty, the Braves organization continues to get love from national media for its stacked farm system.

Though the Atlanta Braves don’t yet know how deep the impending punishment from Major League Baseball will cut as a result of its international market scandal, but one certainty remains; the organization’s farm system is still the best in baseball.

Baseball America showed Atlanta some love on Monday with the release of its first round of 2018 prospect evaluations, openly giving top billing to the Braves minor league cast.

Within Atlanta’s farm system, Baseball America identified its top 10 prospects for 2018. These are players who haven’t exceeded 130 MLB at-bats, 50 innings pitched or 30 relief appearances at the big league level.

Ronald Acuna, who was also Baseball America’s No. 10 overall prospect in its 2017 mid-season rankings, shouldn’t surprise many as Atlanta’s No. 1 overall minor league player. Having yet to make his big league debut, Acuna remains one of the Braves’ most highly  anticipated players.

In a list end capped by the only two outfielders to make the cut, Christian Pache comes in at No. 10, while the only other position players were power hitting Austin Riley at third base and international-signing shortstop Kevin Maitan.

Not surprisingly, the bulk of Baseball America’s top 10 list for the Braves was made up of pitchers; three left-handers and three right-handed prospects.

According to Baseball America, their teams lists are meant to “identify the 10 prospects with the highest ceilings,” while giving “consideration given to the likelihood of reaching those ceilings.”

Though more lists are set to be released by MLB division, Baseball America made clear in while tweeting out Atlanta’s top 10 prospect list on Monday the team they had on top, stating that “the best system in baseball belongs to the Braves.”
