After Finishing The Series With The Phillies, Braves Head To St. Louis

After Wednesday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Atlanta Braves sit in third place in the National League Eastern Division, with a record of 51-60.  Pretty discouraging since we were .500 just a few weeks ago and had playoff hopes on the tip of our tongues.

The Braves now embark on a seven game road trip that has the Braves heading to St. Louis first to take on the Cardinals for three games, followed by a four game series in Colorado to face the Rockies.

The Cards are still fighting for a playoff spot as they currently sit 59-56 which puts them only a game behind NL Central’s leading team, the Cubs.  Colorado is sitting at 65-49 and is currently in the Wild Card #1 slot.

A sweep of these next upcoming seven games and the Braves are back to one game under .500!

But, that’s probably not going to happen.  However, a key piece in those seven games is going to be the pitching of the Braves.

The Cards have won six games in a row and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.  The team is playing well and they just got back Dexter Fowler.  The Rockies just finished a tough series with the Cleveland Indians where they took one game out of the two game series. We all know the ball can do anything in Colorado, so the pitching in the first three games becomes critical.

Here’s what the Braves are sending to the mound to start each game.  This rotation changed a little bit as Manager Brian Snitker swapped up the rotation earlier this week.  R.A. Dickey will be getting more rest.

Saturday night at 7:15pm ET – Lucas Sims

Sunday afternoon at 2:15pm ET – R.A. Dickey

How Does The Rotation Set Up In St. Louis?

More from Braves News

Starting out for Friday’s game, the Braves send Mike Foltynewicz to the hill.  Folty enters this game as the hottest pitcher in the Braves rotation.  He has two wins and one loss in his last three starts while compiling twenty-three strikeouts over 16.1 innings pitched.

Next up for the Braves will be Lucas Sims, who has pitched well in his first two starts in the MLB.  He’s gone 0-2 (no run support like usual) while pitching twelve innings and having six strikeouts.  He’s  compiling a 5.25 ERA in his two starts with the Atlanta Braves.

Finishing out the series for the Braves is R.A. Dickey, who has one win and one loss in his last three starts, which consisted of 16.2 innings pitched, fifteen strikeouts and a 3.78 ERA.  Dickey has pitched in three games and started one time at Busch Stadium striking out five batters, giving up two walks, one homer, two runs and holds a 2.25 ERA there.

Next: Braves lose both the game & Johan Camargo

A win by Foltynewicz in the first game of the series would set a good tone for the remainder of the road trip and help the Braves’ confidence to compile a winning record over this road trip before heading home for nine straight games.

I’m just really begging for a solid performance from Folty since I picked him up in my fantasy league!
