Braves lose both game and Camargo

Two common themes continued on Tuesday night: The Atlanta Braves recent struggles vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, and Julio Teheran’s struggles at home. These two things combined for a 5-2 victory by the Phillies.

Teheran (7-10) has now allowed five or more earned runs in seven games this season. He did a nice job of keeping the Phillies in check through three innings, but began getting into trouble in the fourth. After walking two and surrendering two hits, Teheran had succumbed to a 2-1 deficit, then giving up three more runs in the fifth to put the nail in the coffin.

While the Braves showed little action during the game, it was the pre-game that held the most for Atlanta. As the team made its way onto the field, Braves shortstop Johan Camargo took a dive around the first base line and looked to be in obvious pain. As Braves fans held their breath, it was announced he simply suffered a bone bruise and would more than likely miss 10-14 days.

The Braves offense provided Teheran with little support. The only highlights for the Braves came in the first inning on a Freddie Freeman home run (21), and a seventh inning RBI single by Matt Adams. The seventh inning, though, saw the Braves leave two on with no outs and saw them leave without a run.

One highlight for the Braves was the debut of Max Fried. After being called up this week to the bullpen, Fried entered in the eighth inning and worked a scoreless inning. His first major league strikeout came via a nasty curve to Cameron Perkins.

The Braves will look to end the losing ways against the Phillies on Wednesday as rookie Sean Newcomb takes the mound. Newcomb, who has shown flashes this season, will have to limit his walks to keep the Braves in the game. His recent start saw him surrender a season high seven walks.

The Phillies will send Jerad Eickhoff to the mound. Eickhoff (2-7) has struggled this season, failing to last long in a game all year. He has yet to record an out past the sixth inning since his second start. Eickhoff has settled down recently, surrendering less than three runs in his previous three starts.
