Atlanta Braves: Freddie Freeman leaves game vs Chicago Cubs

WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 09: Freddie Freeman

Braves Freeman left today’s game in the 4th inning

Atlanta Braves and the entire fan base experience about 30 minutes of terror on Wednesday afternoon.  Not because we were on pace to get swept by the Chicago Cubs, it was because our star first base/third baseman exited the game.

The beat writers nor Chip and Joe had any idea what was happening and why Matt Adams came into the game.

After Freeman struck out in the bottom of the 4th inning, the 27-year-old wasn’t seen again.  When the Braves turned a double play in the 5th, Adams caught the ball at first.  Then, all the speculations you can think of started.

Luckily for everyone, it’s not as bad as what we were thinking.

According to the team, Atlanta Braves first/third baseman Freddie Freeman left today’s game with an “illness”.

“It was a little viral-type thing,” Braves manager Brian Snitker told David O’Brien of AJC. “I think he’s OK now. He’s going to go with us (to Los Angeles). Just something that, I don’t know if he felt it a little bit before and thought he could get through it, but it’s nothing bad.”

Freddie left the game on Wednesday after going 0-2 at the plate.

Freeman had Braves fans worried, but he did not have an injury of any kind, but may need some time to recover from a possible virus. Unfortunately, he didn’t look great after the game.

Freeman has been an absolute monster for the Braves this year. If it weren’t for a broken wrist that led to him missing 44 games, Freeman would be a no-brainer MVP candidate. With a .331 average and 17 home runs, Freeman could still remain in the talk for the leagues best player at seasons’ end.

After getting swept by the Chicago Cubs, the Braves will definitely do all they can to keep Freeman healthy and in the lineup as they head to Los Angeles to face the scorching hot Dodgers.

It’s hard to say if Freeman will be in the Braves lineup on Thursday for game one of the Dodgers series.  It is, however, going to be tough for him to fly across the country and get suit up in a different time zone.

Knowing the type of guy Freddie is, he probably won’t miss a game.  Though, he must have been really feeling bad to take himself out of Wednesday’s game…he never leaves games.
