Atlanta Braves top international signing Kevin Maitan promoted to Danville

Kevin Maitan is one of the most exciting international signings in recent memory, with comparisons to former Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera. After a hot start with the Gulf Coast League Braves, the 17-year-old has made his first step towards the big leagues.

The Atlanta Braves took a bit of a risk spending $4.25 million on a then 16-year-old Kevin Maitan back in 2016, but they’re getting instant gratification now that the young ballplayer has begun his journey to the big leagues.

While Maitan is definitely still a few years away from the MLB, the youngster has already turned heads in the rookie Gulf C:oast League. Through 8 games, the shortstop has posted a .355 average with 2 walks, 3 doubles and 3 RBI.

First reported on Twitter by Macon.com‘s Bill Shanks, the Atlanta Braves have promoted Maitan from the rookie league to the advanced rookie league, where he will play for the Danville Braves in the Appalachian League.

Maitan’s promotion doesn’t come as a surprise to very many. His professional debut was highly anticipated by Braves fans, and he has not disappointed. The Braves’ front office has already seen enough to their liking to move the kid up a level.
