‘Tis the season!  Yes, it’s International Market season.  It’s trade season, too.  But it is also time for the next wave of minor league promotions, which include multiple interesting prospects.

We’ve already told you about the big move of the day – that the Atlanta Braves have bumped outfielder Ronald Acuna up to AAA Gwinnett.  We also noted that third baseman Austin Riley has been moved up to AA Mississippi.

However, there are some additional minor league roster moves that are being executed over the past couple of days:

  • OF/1B Tyler Neslony – up from High-A Florida Fire Frogs to Mississippi
  • RHP Jacob Webb – up from High-A Florida Fire Frogs to Mississippi
  • RHP Junior Rincon – up from High-A Florida Fire Frogs to Mississippi
  • OF Justin Ellison – up from Class A Rome Braves to Florida Fire Frogs

Additionally, infielder Sean Rodriguez was officially assigned to the Gwinnett Braves to begin his long-awaited/highly-anticipated rehab time.  After the accident that essentially sheared off a rotator cuff, he is back to playing baseball again!

One other transaction of note: Relief pitcher Chaz Roe was removed from the Braves 40-man roster.  He was outrighted to Gwinnett, effective today.  Hopefully he will have a chance to figure out how to reclaim the magic he had showed in 2016 for the parent club.

A Quick Word About the Promotions

JACOB WEBB – has been working as a reliever for the Fire Frogs all year, and done a solid job at that:  1.74 ERA over 41.1 innings in 22 appearances.  He’s struck out 48 in the process. Walks could be a bit better (22).  His first AA appearance was a 3 inning stint, giving up only a single hit and no runs.  Nice.

JUSTIN ELLISON – Outfielder Ellison is said to be an excellent defender who has also been hitting very well this season:  .254/.302/.444./.746 was his Florida State League slash line.  So despite Neslony’s promotion (see below), the Fire Frogs may not miss a beat.

TYLER NESLONY – A question I like to ask when we have a chance to talk to players is this:  “Who on your team do we not know much about… but should?”  On multiple occasions, this 23-year-old’s name has come up.  He’s OPS’ing .820 this year and now gets to replace Acuna.  He’s #40 on the latest TomahawkTake 50, but don’t mistake that for ‘not a prospect’… not in this farm system.

Finally – An Appetizer

Guess who went yard in his first AAA game?  Yeah.

Next: Forcing the Hand

No, I can’t wait for next year, either!
