Atlanta Braves Johan Camargo’s emergence might start the trade carousel

The Atlanta Braves have something special in Johan Camargo. How special, I’m not quite sure. He has earned the opportunity to start everyday at 3B, and he should stay there, but how does it change the landscape of the roster?

Baseball is a funny, quirky game. So, too, are the players and prospects (in the Atlanta Braves system) that sit in the minors waiting for their shot. You just really never know until they get that shot what they do with it.

Johan Camargo seemed to come out of nowhere to some of us. To others, he was a well kept secret. There’s no denying that Camargo appears to be the guy we’ve all been waiting for.

The July non-waiver trade deadline is fast approaching. I imagine John Coppolella will be receiving calls on the young utility player. Don’t look for him to be dealt.

In my opinion, Johan Camargo could fill the void the Braves have desperately sought since the retirement of Chipper Jones at 3B. Freddie Freeman manning the hot corner was (and is) a temporary thing.

My thoughts for the season going forward after the trade deadline have Camargo still a Brave and as such, their starting third baseman.

For that to happen, though, a few things need to occur. What I think happens and what actually happens are two completely different things.

First, I believe Matt Adams, Brandon Phillips and one of either Matt Kemp or Nick Markakis are traded. I also believe teams call about Julio Teheran, but Coppy decides to stick with Julio, and he stays in the rotation.

Second, should this come to fruition, Ozzie Albies is promoted to Atlanta and maybe Ronald Acuna as well. Acuna’s promotion to Gwinnett should indicate that the Braves believe he too is ready for Major League action, with maybe some small fine tuning here and there.
