Braves and Nationals were delayed for over three hours because of ZERO raindrops!
Does the headline make sense? Well, neither did the rain delay we sat through on Thursday night. Game one of this Atlanta Braves against the first place Washington Nationals series was supposed to start play right after the seven o’clock hour…that did not happen.
At 6:42pm ET, the Washington Nationals posted a tweet saying the game will be delayed and that they will provide more information as soon as it is available.
Well, we didn’t hear from the Nationals until 9:40pm ET when they updated the few fans still left in the ballpark on their video boards.
First the Nats tweet….
The start of tonight's #Nats - #Braves game will be delayed. We will provide more information as soon as it is available.

Then, this message on their video board. But what happened in between this time is why we’re talking about this.

Okay…here’s why it’s funny/ridiculous/implausible/preposterous/stupid/unbelievable…etc, etc. There was NO RAIN!
Non. Zilch. Nada.
In fact, it didn’t start “raining” (if you can call it that — it was a little drizzle) until around 9:10pm.
The Nationals had the tarp on the field around the start of the original game time, then took the tarp off, then put it back on, then took it back off around 10:00pm.
What the heck were the Nats doing?!?
This. Is. Real. Life.
Everyone was in shock about this rain delay…Braves players, Braves account, Braves Fam on Twitter, Braves beat writers, even Dusty Baker was out signing autographs for the fans. It was reported that the majority of the fans left the ballpark a few hours into this rain-apocalypse…can you blame them?
If you were around social media on Thursday, you most likely saw a bunch of posts about this and a lot of them was gold. What folks were coming up with had me rolling.
First, here is a couple I gathered of Braves players and/or organization folks.
This No-Rain delay is something i've never seen before!!

Why is there no game being played in Washington???
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) July 7, 2017
Rain drop, drop top. When is the delay going to stop?

The Nats grounds crew now rolling out the tarp onto a bone-dry field. Fans are booing them and leaving. Have never seen anything like this.

The award for the best response to a fan goes to Ender Inciarte. The All-Star outfielder joked about the tarp being completely dry…yup, have to agree with him. It would be fun, but it was too dry to do anything!
Can't. The tarp is dry. https://t.co/Nomy7ROZ7x

Next: Death by a Thousand Doubles
The award for the most savage goes to the Tampa Bay Rays…yes, the Rays! They must have been keeping track of this “rain delay”…man, this made me laugh

I literally could go on and on with tweets, but they just announced we’re actually going to play baseball! First pitch is at 10:10pm…yes, barring any rain, injury, someone was late to the park, or any other insane reason to start this game.
