Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves offense totaled 12 hits on Friday night and their starting pitcher, Mike Foltynewicz, pitched a great game with 10 strikeouts. Seems like a for sure win right?
Braves closer Jim Johnson couldn’t close the door in the 9th inning. He allowed the Reds to tie the game and in the 10th inning, the Reds hit a walk-off homer.
Really sucks. Braves fall to 22-30 for the season. We’ve had a few games this year that we should have won easily and this is another one.
Braves scored a run in the 3rd inning with a picture perfect baseball inning. Adonis Garcia led off with a single and Dansby Swanson followed with his own single. Folty placed a terrific sac bunt to first which moved the runs up. Ender Inciarte hit a sac fly to center that scored Garcia.
In the 5th inning the Braves scored another run. This time it was off the bat of Swanson. He blasted a homer to left field.
It seems as though the Braves are falling into this rut where we get up in the middle innings and then just stop. Not having Freddie Freeman in the lineup hurts really bad and it shows on nights like tonight where we needed a big hit many times.
Braves lose 3-2
Devin Mesoraco smacks walk-off HR in 10th to beat Atlanta Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The 28-year-old was in a 0-for-15 skid heading into the 10th inning last night…and then this happened…
Braves relief pitcher Jose Ramirez gave Mesoraco a 99mph fastball and he crushed it. The Braves were up 2-0 heading into the 9th inning
The Braves were up 2-0 heading into the 9th inning — we were dominating that game — when Jim Johnson gave up two runs to put us into extra innings. Johnson allowed back-to-back doubles to lead off the 9th and then a wild pitch later in the inning scored the second run.
By now, you know what happened in the 10th. Braves went three up and three down in the heart of our lineup.
It’s a shame Mike Foltynewicz pitched a fantastic game going seven innings, giving up only two hits, no runs, two walks and had 10 strikeouts. He deserved that win and didn’t get it.
"The Cincinnati Reds catcher had been on deck in as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the ninth, and watched the Atlanta Braves closer throw the wild pitch that let the Reds tie the game. If the hitter ahead of him got aboard, Mesoraco would have a solid chance to drive in the winning run. That hitter made an out, but Mesoraco entered the game nonetheless as a part of a double-switch. An inning later, he clubbed a solo homer off a 99-mile-per-hour pitch from right-hander Jose Ramirez to send the Reds to a 3-2 win in 10 innings on Friday at Great American Ball Park.It was the first walk-off homer of Mesoraco’s career."

Attendance and home runs are up at Braves’ new home
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This is great to see. Braves attendance is up, Braves are playing well, and are actually fun to watch (though Freddie is out 🙁 for still two months). Get out and check out the new stadium. Everything I’ve heard so far has been exceptional and I’m really looking forward to getting down there and checking everything out.
"Beginning Monday, the Braves will play 18 of their next 21 games at SunTrust Park — a stretch that should enable the team to settle into its new home and fans to get more acclimated to the place. The upcoming stretch follows an early-season schedule that had the Braves on the road for 32 of their first 54 games. The timing is good for a home-heavy month, with the peak summer attendance period just beginning.“The Braves have always had an attendance surge during the course of the summer months,” said Derek Schiller, the team’s president of business. “So we’re excited about getting into those months where kids are no longer in school.”"
