Next: Gwinnett Braves

AAA Gwinnett Braves (8-5)

Monday

Gwinnett had the day off.

Tuesday

Gwinnett struggled with team defense in the first inning, but starter Sean Newcomb locked in after the first. The G-Braves couldn’t muster enough runs to come back, however, and they ended up losing to Rochester 5-2.

Newcomb was off in his location certainly in the first as well, but he definitely let not getting calls get into his head and frustrate him as he made excellent pitches to the first hitter that he felt were mis-called. He finished with a line of 4 2/3 innings with 5 runs allowed (4 earned) on 6 hits and 4 walks, striking out 5.

Sean Kazmar had a double and a single. Lane Adams had two singles. Adam Walker had two walks. David Freitas had a solo home run.

Wednesday

After the bullpen gave up 4 runs over the final two innings to jeopardize the lead, the Gwinnett offense came back strong to score two runs in the bottom of the 9th and win Wednesday’s game over Rochester 7-6 in walk-off fashion.

Matt Wisler pitched a fine start, going 7 innings, allowing just two solo home runs for the scoring damage as part of 7 total hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts.

Rio Ruiz had two singles and a walk. Kyle Kubitza had a home run and a walk. Lane Adams had two singles, a stolen base, and drove in the game-winning runs. David Freitas had a single and two walks. Matt Tuiasosopo had two walks. Ozzie Albies had a double. Xavier Avery had a stolen base.

More from Tomahawk Take

Monday

Mississippi and Mobile partook in a beautiful 1-1 pitching duel between starters Tyler Carpenter and Patrick Weigel and their respective bullpens into extra innings, where Mobile scored 3 in the top of the 10th to win 4-1.

Weigel had a very solid start, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on 4 hits and no walks, striking out 7. Jared James was really the only hitting contributor on the game, going 4-4 with a double and a triple on the game. Kade Scivicque had a double.

Tuesday

After Mobile tied the game in the top of the 7th, Mississippi scored two in the bottom of the inning to take the game 4-2. Kolby Allard had a solid start, going 6 innings, allowing a solo home run as part of 4 hits and a walk, striking out 1.

Dylan Moore had a home run and a single. Luis Valenzuela had two singles. Travis Demeritte had a single and a walk. Joey Meneses had a home run. Keith Curcio had a double. Connor Lien stole his second base of the season.

Wednesday

After Matt Withrow pitched a gem over 5 innings, the bullpen let him down, and the M-Braves lost to Mobile 5-1. Withrow went 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks, striking out 5.

Carlos Franco had a double and two singles on the day. Reed Harper had a double, a single, and a walk. Armando Araiza scored some rare playing time and had a double and a single. Joey Meneses had a single and a walk.

Florida Fire Frogs (6-8)

Monday

Florida made a big comeback attempt late in the game, but they fell short against Fort Myers 2-1. Tyler Pike had an excellent start, going 6 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and a walk, striking out 4.

No Fire Frog hitter reached base twice in the game, but the offensive story was Ronald Acuna hitting a solo home run in his first game back after missing time due to a bruised hand.

Tuesday

Florida took Tuesday’s contest with Fort Myers 5-4. Drew Harrington made the start and put up a very solid line, going 5 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 5.

Carlos Castro had a double and a single. Alex Jackson had two singles. Ronald Acuna and Austin Riley each had a double and a walk. Jonathan Morales had a single and a walk. Braxton Davidson had two walks. Ray-Patrick Didder had a double.

Rome Braves (9-5)

Monday

Rome was able to hold off a 9th inning rally from Columbia to score a 3-2 victory. Bryse Wilson got the start, and while he only lasted 4 2/3 innings, he looked much better after struggling in his second start of the year. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Anthony Concepcion had three walks and a stolen base. Tanner Murphy had a double and a single. Kevin Josephina had two singles. Juan Yepez had a single and a walk. Derian Cruz hit a double.

Tuesday

Rome dropped a rain-shortened game on Tuesday to Columbia 8-3. Rome starter Jeremy Walker was the victim of some sloppy defense behind him, as he threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 1.

Anthony Concepcion and Brett Cumberland each had a double. Kevin Josephina had a stolen base.

Wednesday

The Braves made an effort to come back, but they couldn’t quite nip Columbia Wednesday, losing 3-2. Ian Anderson took the hill and went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, walking 3 and striking out 7.

Juan Yepez was the only Rome Brave to reach base multiple times as he had a double, single, and even stole his second base of the season. Lucas Herbert flashed his wheels with a stolen base as well.

For those interested, Tim Tebow went 1-11 in the series against Rome, with 2 runs scored, a walk, and four strikeouts for a fancy .091/.167/.091 line for the three-game set.
