Braves Move Start Times Back 30 Minutes
On Friday of last week, the Atlanta Braves announced that the start times at the new SunTrust Ball Park will be moved back 30 minutes. This will only change the games being played at the new field in Cobb County and only the Monday through Thursday games.
This start time will not change the Friday, Saturday and Sunday games. Braves games on Friday have already been starting at 7:35pm ET.
We’ll first see the change to a 7:30pm ET start – according to an AP report – will be on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
The AP report stated the following about the 2017 Braves schedule…
“The Braves opening the season with a three-game series at the New York Mets on April 3, then going to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game series. Atlanta also has a two-game series at the Miami Marlins before heading home for the Thursday opener against the Padres, the start of a four-game series.”
The Braves seem super excited about this new start time, but I’m not in the same camp. Am I the only one? Here’s their — pretty cool video, that I’m sure they spent some good money on the graphics — transportation and start time update for the new SunTrust facility.
Reasons I’m not a fan of this new start time
I’ve got my Braves routine — come home from work, walk the dog, make dinner, watch the game. Everything flows.
Moving to a 7:30pm ET start just sounds strange. We don’t want baseball to get like the NFL and NBA where the games start after fans go to bed.
We’ll have to wait sooo much longer until Braves pre-game starts!

A lot less sun light. Matt Kemp and Freddie Freeman both have career better stats during the day time (yes I know).
Remember, Monday through Thursday are still work nights. Starting an extra 30 minutes later means games probably won’t end until 10:30pm – 11pm.
What if the Braves go into extras?…Even later night. The Braves have played in 17 games of which they’ve went into extra innings in 2016 — including last nights game.
It won’t just be a later night for the fans, but also the players, media and other workers. We don’t need anyone getting cranky.
Maybe I’m just looking into this too much since most games at Turner Field have been starting at 7:10pm ET. So it’s really just a 20 minute change, but still…I’m sticking to my complaint!
