Round 24: Matt Hearn, CF, L/R, Mission Colorado. J2, 5’9″ 165lbs, 02/29/96

This is Hearn’s recruiting video from 2013. Warning, the music is annoying.

While the Braves listed him as a CF, in the video he’s taking infield and that – second base specifically – seems to be his preferred position.

For Mission College Hearn played but infield and outfield. His two year stats show him to be an on base guy with who has yet to hit a homer.

G PA AB 2B 3B SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
41 193 167 8 3 28 1 22 11 .383 .458 .467 .925

Hearn played in the Northwoods League the last two seasons; as a utility man for the Kelowna Falcons in 2015 and at second base hitting leadoff for the Kenosha Kingfish this season.

Season PA G AB R H 2B RBI BB SO SB AVG OBP SLG OPS K/BB RC
2016 69 14 58 9 20 1 3 8 8 5 .345 .426 .362 .788 1.0 9.1
2015 95 33 79 18 26 2 8 11 11 11 .329 .430 .380 .810 1.0 12.3
Totals 164 47 137 27 46 3 11 19 19 16 .336 .429 .371 .800 1.0 21.4

He hasn’t hit a home run for in that league and the K/BB looks a little high for a bat without power but playing everyday and full time professional coaching will help with that.

In 2015 he stole 11 bases in 13 attempts but this season hes just 5 out of 9 so perhaps that isn’t his best tool.

Round 25: Ryan O’Malley, 3B, L/R, Sonoma St U, Senior, 6’2″ 205lbs, 02/02/94

The Sonoma website says “he was selected as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 25-31” going 7 for 12 (.583) with three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and six runs scored for a slugging percentage of 1.583 over that seven day period. Here’s his stats for this season at Sonoma.
