#MLBFortBragg, Atlanta Braves Update
It’s June 6, 2016. A day in our Nation’s history that, for me, and many others, has extreme significance. D-Day.
On this day, 72 years ago, the Allied Invasion of Normandy ensued. A great, and at the same time, turbulent, dangerous, and brave expedition took place.
Therefore, I thought it fitting that we provide an update on the long anticipated #MLBFortBraggGame, to be played at Fort Bragg, NC on July 3rd, 2016.
Seeing as one of the many participants that day were none other than the 82nd Airborne Division.
The Atlanta Braves will square off in the Fort Bragg Game, against the Marlins, in less than a month’s time.
We haven’t had many updates, unfortunately, but not for the lack of trying. There are a few reasons for that.
The biggest is that because the game is happening on a military installation, “mum’s” the word whenever outside events like this come to the military. It’s standard protocol.
Security is the biggest thing, federal installations kind of warrant that sort of treatment.
However, the Fort Bragg’s 82nd Airborne Division Public Affairs office has been more than accommodating when it comes to questions or just quick updates on the progress of things.
Almost all their updates from their social media accounts, almost exclusively Twitter, have been very much appreciated and welcomed.
Before I delve into the progress of the field, on which the Braves and Marlins will play on, I would like to preface by saying that I honestly didn’t think the small stadium would be completed in time for the July 3rd tilt.
After the announcement of the game (Just weeks into the season), the stadium had yet to even be started. It was a golf course, and immensely overgrown.
Now, it actually looks like a stadium, OK, maybe not a “stadium” per se, but definitely a baseball diamond, is taking shape.
We think this will make a GREAT place to #PlayBall! What say you @Braves and @Marlins? Ready for #MLBFortBragg? pic.twitter.com/waTDIsilM1

Not looking too shabby.
Progress appears to be going smoothly and quickly. With less than a month before the scheduled first pitch, it seems completion will be done just in time.
On a personal aside, I’m more than beside myself about this game! Being active duty, I only wish I was allowed travel expenses for this event.
Don’t think Uncle Sam would like that too much, though.
As for those who will be in attendance, regardless of outcome, this will be a historic occasion. While it hasn’t been confirmed, you’d imagine that the wonderful folks from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be on hand to record the proceedings.
MLB Communications has also shared some photos of the ongoing progress.

It’s going to be a glorious evening at the friendly confines of Fort Bragg. For some perspective, here’s a quick look at the progress of the field:

Thank you to the 82nd Airborne Division for keeping us updated with the progress, and for being extremely generous in every facet.
