An Arrangement in Orange and Blue, Vol. 1; also known as Wisler’s Master

It was indeed a masterpiece of a performance by Atlanta Braves pitcher Matt Wisler Tuesday night as he blanked the Mets for 8 innings on one lone hit.  Meanwhile, Matt Harvey‘s struggles continued as he gave up 3 earned runs and 8 hits against the worst offense in baseball, not getting out of the 6th inning.  The scream of Mets’ fan were dampened early on as the night watch continued and Wisler’s dominance became more evident.

Both starting pitchers walked 2 and K’d 4, but Wisler was the one who was able to keep the Mets off-balance for nearly the entire dark night.  It didn’t necessarily look that way at first:  two lineouts and a flyout around a walk – with 2 balls hit deep.  But then Wisler clearly settled in.  There were a couple of liners and long flies thereafter, but at no time did a Met even reach second base.

If you like pitching, you’d have loved this game:  Julio Teheran posted a ‘game score’ of 81 against Chicago on Sunday – best of the year to that point by a Brave.  Last night, Wisler hit 82… tied for 12th in the majors so far.  Clearly, Wisler’s own persistence of memory was recalled, as his diligence in preparing for the season is paying dividends.

Jeff gave us a ton of stats about the offensive event from the last damp and not-so-starry night, plus the video of Mallex’ first homer:  check those out here.

Here’s a keeper of a box score:
