Baseball Reference

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: I have Julio Teheran in two of my fantasy baseball teams this year and in one of them I benched him yesterday…guess I should have benched him in both leagues.  Another rough outing for the 25-year-old as he falls to 0-2 and has a 6.35 ERA.  Bryce Harper became the 8th youngest player to reach 100 career homers yesterday at 23 years, 181 days old.  He hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 4th inning.  The Braves fall to 0-9 as the Nationals are now 7-1 in 2016.  On last note of maybe concern, Mallex Smith was caught stealing again.  His second time in three tries.

Dusty Baker has funny quote about Stephen Strasburg illness

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg pitched 7.2 innings against the Braves on Thursday evening allowing four hits, two runs, two walks and picked up seven strikeouts.  Strasburg is a pitcher that Freddie Freeman usually destroys, but he didn’t get a chance to see him yesterday as he sat for some much needed “rest”.  The Nats sweep the four game series and have beat the Braves six times already in 2016.

"Strasburg was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday with the flu. He was able to make the start Thursday against the Atlanta Braves, but it wasn’t easy, apparently.Nationals manager Dusty Baker touched on how tough it was for Strasburg to suit up for the game."

MLB DRAFT PROSPECT JASON GROOME RULED INELIGIBLE, HAS STATS ERASED

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This 17-year-old high school ball player is being projected to be a very high draft pick in the 2016 June MLB draft.  Groome will be able to return to the field on May 1st and should continue to put up his numbers, but his earlier numbers will be erased.  Will this cause him to slide in the draft?  It’s hard to say, but it’s possible.  Braves could steal another pitcher like they did in 2015 when Kolby Allard fell to them after being injury his senior year.

"Barnegat High School left-hander Groome, who’s widely expected to be the top pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, was ruled ineligible and his victories with the team to be forfeited after violating the NJSIAA transfer rules reports NJ.com. The violation was handed out because bylaws determined Groome’s transfer from IMG Academy to Barnegat “did not constitute a bona fide change of address,” meaning he had to sit 30 days or half the season’s games to become eligible.“The association’s rules clearly state that a student-athlete transferring from one secondary school to another must provide evidence of a bona fide change of residence as defined by NJSIAA rules,” NJSIAA spokesman Michael Cherenson said in a statement released to NJ Advance Media. “Otherwise, that student will be deemed ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletic competition for 30 calendar days or half of the maximum number of games allowed in that sport by NJSIAA rules. Further, if it is determined that an ineligible player participated in regular season games, those games must be forfeited. Neither ruling is open to appeal.”The Phillies are expected to take the 6’6″ lefty first overall in June’s Draft, and it’s highly doubtful that this ruling will have any implications on that selection."
