Atlanta Braves reorganize top management
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: John Schuerholz will now serve as the Braves vice chairman after stepping down as the President of the Braves yesterday. The Braves organization has already slotted Schuerholz replacement as they will fill the role with two businessmen. Derek Schiller will be the President of Business and Mike Plant will serve as the President of Development.
"The Atlanta Braves announced several big changes at the top including John Schuerholz now stepping aside as the president of the Atlanta Braves…but why now? It’s a question executives answered and elaborated on during Channel 2’s Craig Lucie’s one-on-one interviews Thursday after a news conference at Turner Field. They also explained what it means for fans.“I’m not stepping down, I’m not stepping back, I’m stepping forward,” said Schuerholz.John Schuerholz built two World Series championship teams, the 1985 Royals and 1995 Braves. In the words of his boss, Braves CEO and Chairman Terry McGuirck, “He’s just recognized as one of greatest ever in baseball.”"
Atlanta Braves 2016 Fantasy Outlook
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves could have some fantasy baseball sleepers on the team. I just finished up two drafts this past week and in late rounds I selected Julio Teheran, Ender Inciarte and Hector Olivera. All guys I think could have a solid fantasy season and many folks aren’t even looking their way. Inciarte will continue to get on base and with Erick Aybar, Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis behind him, he’ll score some runs. Olivera has had a great Spring Training and I don’t see him slowing down. I’m expecting a huge season from him in at least three of the five standard categories.
"Pierzynski is still a fringe standard league option because he hits for a good average and still has some pop. And really, the Braves aren’t worried about saving him. He will catch when he can. He is a suitable backup option in case your starter goes down. He should be owned in all leagues of 12 or more teams.Freeman lost part of last year to injury, but he still wouldn’t have hit the 30 home run plateau at the pace he was on. People are drafting him like he can hit that mark this year, and I think he can. I don’t know that I am willing to pay the extra premium though.Peterson is still getting better, but he is barely an option in deep leagues right now. His steals make him worth rostering in those. Same with Aybar. He is really only useful in deep leagues where you need an able bodied starter that can swipe a few bags."
