Atlanta Braves Chances To Play Ball In October

Everyone Has A Shot For October Baseball, Do The Braves?

So here it is, October for the Atlanta Braves, which means two definitive things. One, the regular season is over. Two, the Braves will play their final games (sorry optimistic fans), two of them for the month, at Turner Field.

The final two games for the Braves EVER on this field!

These two games will finish up the series against the Detroit Tigers at Turner Field. Although the Tigers likely be in playoff contention, the emotion of closing out Turner Field will have the Braves take one of two of these games, finishing the month at 1-1.

Now, being that the Braves are playing their final season at Turner Field, there is the hope and dream that Turner Field will go out during a playoff series, which could happen.

Recapping my projections for each month, take a look at how it played out regarding wins and losses:

  • April: 8-16
  • May: 15-13
  • June: 15-13
  • July: 15-10
  • August: 13-15
  • September: 15-12
  • October: 1-1

Adding these all up, the projection for the season comes out to be 82 wins against 80 losses.

So does the dream of playing and ending the season at Turner Field in the playoffs happen with an 82-80 record?  Probably no chance.

To put things in prospective, the Houston Astros made the playoffs this past season as a Wild Card with an 86-76 record. Not exactly what the projection is for the Braves, but it is close and a glimmer of hope.

The National League has extremely strong teams, including the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, all in one division.  The Washington Nationals should be a good team and the New York Mets could be as strong as they were in 2015.  You can never count out the San Francisco Giants and the LA Dodgers will be tough again.  Since the Braves are in the National League, it is a little slimmer chance to have a record around .500 and make it into the post-season.

Last year, the team with the worse record to make the playoffs from the National League was the New York Mets and they finished with a 90-72 record, which won the NL East. The Washington Nationals actually finished the regular season this past year with an 83-79 record and failed to make the playoffs.

However, those are just my projections. If you go back and do your own, what record do you come up with and do the Braves send Turner Field out with a playoff celebration?
