Atlanta Braves News: Chop, Freddie Freeman’s Injury, The NL Mess

Gwinnett Daily Post

Braves’ Freddie Freeman still dealing with wrist issues

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves first baseman, Freddie Freeman, continues to try to play through his banged up right wrist.  Though I understand his commitment to his team and wanting to be on the field everyday, the Braves have to be smart with this situation.  Freeman’s wrist is injured and these last six games don’t mean anything…why risk causing a more serious issue here?  Braves should sit Freeman for the rest of the season, period.

"“(Manager Fredi Gonzalez) asked me whether I bunted because it hurt or because I thought I saw an opening and I was like ‘Fredi I don’t care if there’s nobody on the left side of the field I’m not going to be bunting,” Freeman said. “In the on-deck circle, I didn’t even take a swing.”Freeman exited after lining out in the at-bat and plans to see a doctor on Monday.“We’ll see what he determines,” Freeman said. “I don’t know if it was the quick turnaround but maybe it just didn’t heal enough like it normally does. Maybe it was the day game after the night game.”"

Bill Shanks: Atlanta Braves’ bad season almost over

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Remember the year 2015 for the Braves because one day you’ll tell your friends, kids, family members that the Atlanta Braves were once this bad and you sat through it all.  The Braves won’t be this bad again from probably another 25 years.  Let’s take this season with a grain of salt and look forward to what 2016 and 2017 will be….because we all know it’s can’t be worse than what we’re dealing with in the second half of 2015.

"This Sunday, the horrific year will conclude as the worst season since 1990. That’s 25 years. That’s an entire generation that has avoided a season like this. Most young people only know Atlanta as a winning organization, so this has been a shock for everyone. No one expected things to be this bad. There’s little chance even the most positive Braves fan would have predicted a winning season, but no one could have thought it would be this awful, either. The roster has changed dramatically since Opening Day, as only 11 players on the team April 6 in Miami are on the roster now. There have been trades — five of them — along with plenty of rookies. Sixteen players have made their big league debuts this season for Atlanta, with 13 being pitchers. The Braves have used 60 players, the most in franchise history. The 2014 Braves used only 39 players the entire season. The 60 players are 10 more than the previous record, set with the 2007 Braves."

Nationals suspend Jonathan Papelbon four games

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Here’s something to ponder…are the Braves the biggest mess in the NL East??  I’d say no….that would have to be the Washington Nationals.  A team that everyone picked to be the divisional winner and a strong candidate for the World Series has fallen on their faces in 2015.  The Braves on the other hand traded everyone away, had many injuries and we all knew this wouldn’t be our year.  I believe it’s a better time to be a Braves fan right now…at least we can’t go any further south.

"The Washington Nationals are treating Jonathan Papelbon and Bryce Harper’s eighth-inning altercation Sunday a bit more seriously than one would a sibling quarrel. The day after Papelbon grabbed Harper’s throat during a dugout scuffle both players later described as being akin to brothers fighting, the Nationals suspended Papelbon for four games without pay.“The behavior exhibited by Papelbon yesterday is not acceptable,” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement released by the club. “That is not at all in line with the way our players are expected to conduct themselves, and the Nationals organization will not tolerate it in any way.”"
