Tampa Bay Rays vs Atlanta Braves Odds and Preview
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: In game one of the series between the Atlanta Braves and the Tampa Bay Rays will be starters Erasmo Ramirez against Williams Perez. The Braves rank 30th in home runs in 2015 while the Rays rank 13th in the league in homers. Atlanta is 20-41 when allowing at least one home run. Tampa Bay currently sits at .500 with a 56-56 record and still have a shot at the NL East with only being six games back…also only 3.5 games out of the AL Wild Card…BUT, the Braves are playing well right now after winning three of four against the Marlins!
"The odds are even for this game and the Over/Under (O/U) is presently unavailable. The Rays have an SU record of 9-6 against the National League. Over their past 10 games, Tampa Bay’s offense has been playing lights out, averaging 5.0 runs per game, well over their season average of 3.7. Turning to the pitching and defensive side, the Tampa Bay pitching staff and defense has been very good, only giving up 3.8 runs per game. The Rays are the best in the AL in hits allowed, giving up just 7.9 per game.Against teams in the American League, the Braves are 5-7 SU. During the last 10 games, they averaged 4.7 runs per game, above their 3.8 season average. The Braves are known for their bats, hitting 265 extra base hits. The last 10 games have really brought the worst out of the Atlanta pitchers. They allowed 6.2 runs per game during that span, which is higher than their season average of 4.4."
Jose Peraza makes his debut with Dodgers
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Former number one prospect for the Braves, Jose Peraza got the start for the Los Angles Dodgers on Monday night. Atlanta traded him to the Dodgers on July 30th in exchange for Hector Olivera. He was slipping in the Braves prospect organization after not having the best 2015 season and the emergence of Jace Peterson at second base. Good for him to get the start on a big league team, hope he does well.
"When Jose Peraza started at second base on Monday, the 21-year-old became the youngest position player to debut for the Dodgers since Beltre.Peraza bobbled the first ground ball hit to him, in the top of the first inning, but recovered to throw out BryceHarper. He batted second, and in his first at-bat he flied out. In his next at-bat, he flashed his speed by turning a single that skipped past a diving Harper into a triple, punctuating his first major league hit with a headfirst slide. The Dodgers called up Peraza on Monday to replace second baseman Howie Kendrick, who was put on the disabled list because of a strained left hamstring. Peraza, acquired from the Atlanta Braves in the Dodgers’ three-team, 13-player trade on July 30, batted .385 in 10 games at triple-A Oklahoma City."
Swisher ignites fans while flashing Tomahawk Chop in Braves debut
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: I loved every second of this! Newly acquired veteran, Nick Swisher, made a tremendous splash on Braves fans Saturday night. He first made a great play at first base and then a line drive double in the gap. Once he got to second he lit up the crowd with his own Tomahawk Chop! He’s a special player, but just didn’t have success in Cleveland. Hopefully a change of scenery is all he needed.
"Atlanta Braves manager cited one intangible from Friday’s trade that sent Chris Johnson to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn: “Energy.”Swisher certainly revved up the home fans in his debut with the Braves on Saturday night after clubbing a two-run double to give his team a three-run lead en route to a 7-2 victory over the Miami Marlins.“The crowd’s been chopping all season, but we haven’t had a player chop,” teammate Cameron Maybin said. “But he’s the kind of guy who, you know, his energy alone can spark the clubhouse.”"
