Atlanta Braves Go Quiet In The Night Against Madison Bumgarner and The Giants

The Atlanta Braves came into the game Wednesday night looking to win the series against the defending World Series champs, the San Francisco Giants.  What stood in the way of the peace bridge? Madison Bumgarner.

The Giants, Bumgarner and timely hits defeated the Braves 6-1.  The star of the Giants offense was Kelby Tomlinson as he singled in two runs in the 2nd inning and another run in the 4th.  Matt Duffy doubled in Nori Aoki and then Hunter Pence drove in Duffy in the 7th to make the game 6-0.

The Braves got on the board in the bottom of the 7th inning when catcher Ryan Lavarnway doubled in Jace Peterson….ANNNNDD that’s all the runs we can talk about.

Bumgarner is having another great season for the Giants as he’s now 12-6 with a 3.28 ERA.  He went 7.1 innings, giving up seven hits, one run and had nine strikeouts.

“He was good and commanding his fastball on both sides of the plate,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.  “He was pretty dominate today against us.”

Braves starter, Williams Perez, was making his second start back after being struck by a batted ball in the foot resulting in a DL stint.  That was on June 27.  Perez went 6 innings, giving up 10 hits, six runs, five earned runs, two walks and had two strikeouts.

“If you look at the numbers and you see 6 innings pitched…you’re going to go ‘well, that outing wasn’t very good’ because he gave up five earned runs,” Gonzalez told reporters.  “But if you evaluate him on other stuff, it’s better than the numbers showed…but that’s not what we’re here for, we’re here to win ball games.”

His first start back for the foot injury was against the Phillies.  He pitched only 4.1 innings, giving up nine hits, nine runs and four walks.

“The first start after the injury it did feel a little weird, but I’m feeling normal again,” Perez said after the game on Wednesday.  “I feel really good about my stuff, but I’m sad we lost the ball game.”

With 128 games down, the Braves have 34 games left in the 2015 season…which also means 0 chance at losing 100 games!!
