The Atlanta Braves fell to 46-55 while being swept by the Orioles last night, scoring no runs and garnering just 4 hits. It was quick (2 hours 15 minutes) and seemed pretty well inevitable early on.
But in light of everything else going on, let’s focus on the positive: Mike Foltynewicz was actually very good last night. Let’s break it down:
- 6 complete innings pitched
- 6 hits allowed, 2 of which being solo homers
- Just 2 walks
- 8 strikeouts
I would take that for every start. It’s clearly not his fault that the team isn’t putting runs up on the board. It’s also clear that he had a much better outing than the last few made at the major league level, so this should be very encouraging.
So now the team heads to Philadelphia and the Cole Hamels-less Phils, who nonetheless seem to be on a roll.
