Best Honeymoon Ever, Game 6: Miami Marlins at New York Yankees

Game Review:

On the surface, Michael Pineda against Jose Urena looked like a terrible mismatch, but that’s why you have to love baseball. Pineda pitched an incredible game, giving up only one hit, a home run he gave up to open the 7th inning before bowing out two outs later at 100 pitches. Urena was no slouch, though, finding his way out of trouble often, spinning 6 hits and 4 walks over 6 innings and holding the Yankees only to 2 runs.

Alex Rodriguez was on base four times on the day, including two walks, one of which was labeled intentional, the other of which may as well have been intentional. He even stole a base on the day. For the Marlins, watching Giancarlo Stanton take batting practice was worth the price of admission alone!

Today’s game, however, belonged to Pineda. He towered over hitters from the mound with his 6’7″ frame, striking out 9 over 6 2/3 innings. Chasen Shreve looked good in his one batter faced, making me long to have him back in the bullpen.

Stadium Review:

The stadium was quite impressive, especially when seeing all the World Series pennants all in a row. One of the undersold things about Yankee fans is their general understanding of the game. The Yankees have a lot of bandwagon fans that are not exactly baseball savvy for sure, but their “hardcore” fans know the history of the game and can have a very good discourse with you on the game.

Accessibility to the stadium via the subway is a bonus for sure, and we enjoyed our ride from the stadium to our hotel in Times Square. The Yankee printed tickets were definitely my favorite of the trip, featuring various former Yankee greats on the ticket.
