Yesterday was bad.  If it had been a football game, the coaches would have burned the video.  If it had been a prizefight, the referee would have stopped it after the 3rd round.  If it had been a filmed movie scene, the Director would have been yelling “Cut!” a million times.

  • It was the first time in almost 3 years that Nick Markakis committed an error.  That apocalyptic event alone should have led the Braves to forfeit immediately (yes, in the 1st inning).
  • Additional errors came from Jace Peterson and Kelly Johnson; plus I believe there were other possibilities left uncalled.  These led to a total of 3 unearned runs.  Completely uncharacteristic of the Braves.
  • Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth weren’t in the lineup, and the Nats still won.  Heck, they even kept Dan Uggla caged up for us.
  • Doug Fister, one of the Nats’ most hittable pitchers, looked like Cy Young for a day.  The 7 innings of shutout ball dropped his ERA to 4.15.

Best thing the Braves could do after this?  Leave town… and that’s exactly what happened.  Tonight Atlanta opens against Pittsburgh, and hopefully they can do to the Pirates what the Nationals did against both of these teams in the past week.

Here’s your box score… children, avert your eyes:
