Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves starter, Shelby Miller, pitched another fantastic game and put the Braves in the position they needed to be in to win the game. He went seven innings, giving up five hits and only one run and totaled six strikeouts. The Braves bullpen? Well in four innings, they gave up four hits, four runs and a walk. The top of the Braves order continues to swing hot bats as Jace Peterson, Cameron Maybin and Freddie Freeman had six of the Braves 11 hits on Monday evening. Braves lose 5-3
Kemp, Kimbrel lead Padres over Braves in 11 innings
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: If you missed Monday night’s game against the Padres because you were watching – MLB Draft, Stanley Cup finals, USA soccer, or the Bachelorette – the Braves bullpen blew it again. This time our closer Jason Grilli blew the save in the 9th inning and that allowed the Padres to take the victory in extra innings. Former Braves players hurt us as well…Melvin Upton scored the tying run in the 9th inning, Justin Upton scored the winning run and Craig Kimbrel picked up his 200th save in the 11th inning. Great times at the Ted!
"Matt Kemp drove in the go-ahead run with a loud double, Kimbrel earned his 200th career save and the San Diego Padres beat Atlanta 5-3 in 11 innings on Monday night. Melvin Upton Jr. scored the tying run as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning after a wild pickoff throw and Justin Upton scored the go-ahead run on Kemp’s double in the 11th. Kimbrel was perfect in the 11th, including a strikeout of Todd Cunningham to end the game. ”It was definitely cool,” Kimbrel said of the save."
Bobby Cox helps tee of Chris Hammond Youth Foundation Golf Tournament
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Former Atlanta Braves manager, Bobby Cox, continues to make a mark within the community even after retirement from his manager duties. Yesterday (June 8th) at Greystone Country Club, the 2015 Chris Hammond Youth Foundation golf tournament kicked off with Cox there to support.
"A large crowd gathered at Regions Field Sunday evening, but it wasn’t to see the Barons play. Former Major League pitcher Chris Hammond was hosting a kick-off gala and silent auction to raise funds for his foundation."
"“We try to help underprivileged kids face what life has to hold for them,” said Hammond. “I truly believe if a kid participates in some form of athletics, the virtues and the characteristics that you learn from that help them face what our world holds for them.”"
"“It’s not about me. it’s about helping and serving whoever needs help.” Hammond got a little help himself from one of his former managers. Hall-of-Famer and former Atlanta Braves skipper Bobby Cox was the keynote speaker at the gala. “Chris is a big time Christian kid. The nicest guy I’ve ever seen, one of the best competitors I’ve ever seen,” said Cox. “You just knew when he retired that he would do something like this to give back. It’s my honor and pleasure and I’m just overwhelmed to be part of it for Hammy.”"
