Braves Minor League Report

This will be the first week of our new format here on our twice-weekly minor league news report. DSL Braves (2-1)

Monday

The Braves won their second game of the year on Monday against the Marlins squad 5-4. Luis Perez threw two hitless innings to start the game, walking one and striking out one. Anthony Concepcion provided the big hit with a 2 run home run in the first inning. Felipe Zorrilla had a single and two walks while Alex Aquino added two walks. The Braves did commit 4 errors in spite of the win, with only one of their runs allowed being earned.

Tuesday

The Braves pulled out a win on Tuesday against the Tigers’ DSL squad 8-7. Frank Gil had an excellent start, going 2 perfect innings while striking out 4. Randy Ventura ran wild in the game, stealing 5 bases on two hits and got on base on an error. Anthony Concepcion was on base three times with two singles and a walk and added a stolen base. Felipe Zorrilla had two hits, including a double, and he stole a base as well. Luis Mejia added two singles, Terrence Josephina had a double, and Alex Aquino added a steal.

Wednesday

Statistics for the Wednesday game between the Braves and Tigers were not available at press time.

Rome Braves (25-28)

Monday

Alec Grosser had his best start of the year Monday, leading Rome to a Monday win 5-2 at home over Lexington. Grosser went 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Joseph Daris had two hits, including a home run. Connor Oliver was the only other Brave on base twice, getting a single and a walk. Tanner Murphy and Omar Obregon each collected doubles, and Obregon added his 11th steal of the season.

Tuesday

Lexington came into Rome and defeated the Braves 10-2. Oriel Caicedo started the game and threw 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2. Connor Oliver had 3 hits in three trips to the plate. Ozhaino Albies also added 2 hits.

Wednesday

Rome lost another game to Lexington on Wednesday 6-2. Caleb Beech pitched very well, going 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Dustin Emmons took the loss, allowing 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings, though all 5 runs were unearned. Ozhaino Albies had 4 hits and a walk on the day. Braxton Davidson was on base 4 times with a double and 3 walks. Joseph Daris had a double and Omar Obregon stole his 12th base.

Carolina Mudcats (23-26)

Monday

Carolina hosted Wilmington Monday and were overly gracious hosts, losing 4-1. Brandon Barker got the start for Carolina, throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Johan Camargo was the only Brave on base twice with a walk and a single. Levi Hyams provided the only scoring for the Braves with a 3rd inning home run. Joey Terdoslavich added a double.

Tuesday

Carolina dropped Tuesday’s game to Wilmington 6-5. Sean Furney had a rough start, allowing all 6 Blue Rocks runs in 3 innings on 8 hits while striking out 4. Jacob Schrader had his first big game since returning to the lineup after the bus crash, collecting 3 hits and a home run. Dustin Peterson returned for the first time since the crash, going 0-5. Peterson’s return prompted the promotion of Joey Terdoslavich to AA Mississippi. Sean Godfrey continued his hot hitting with 3 hits and a walk. Carlos Franco, Joey Meneses, and Reed Harper each had 2 hits.

Wednesday

Carolina had an off-day on Wednesday.

Mississippi Braves (28-23)

Monday

Jackson came to town on Monday and took the game 5-2 over Mississippi. Greg Ross started for Mississippi and had a solid start, throwing 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and a walk while striking out one. The 1-3 hitters each had two singles, with Mallex Smith adding his 17th steal of the season, Emerson Landoni adding a walk, and KD Kang hitting his two singles. Rio Ruiz was on base three times with a single and two walks on the day.

Tuesday

Mississippi hosted Jackson for a double header and took both games. In the opener, they defeated 5-2 behind starter Jason Hursh, who got his 2nd win of the season, allowing 2 runs in 5 2/3 innings on 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. Rio Ruiz got two hits and a double. Emerson Landoni had two hits. Mallex Smith was on base three times between a hit and two walks. Smith also added his 18th steal. Kevin Ahrens was on base twice through one hit and one walk.

The M-Braves took the second game 3-0 behind an excellent start from Victor Mateo who threw 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks. Seth Loman provided the entirety of the Mississippi offense with a 3 run home run and two hits.

Wednesday

Jackson took the Wednesday game over the M-Braves 6-3 on the strength of a 3-run 9th. Tyrell Jenkins started the game and went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (only one earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. KD Kang had 4 hits, including a triple. Emerson Landoni had 3 hits. Joey Terdoslavich had a double and a walk in his first game in Mississippi

The Tuesday game between Gwinnett and Norfolk was rained out.

Wednesday

Gwinnett split a double header on Wednesday against Norfolk. Norfolk blew out the Braves in the opener 11-1. Chien-Ming Wang started and had his shortest outing of the season, throwing 3 innings, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and 4 walks. Sean Kazmar had two hits and a double. Wil Nieves had a double and a walk.

Gwinnett had to go to extras, but they defeated Norfolk 2-1 in the second game. Greg Smith started for the Braves and went 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 3. Eury Perez had two hits, including a double. Cedric Hunter also added 2 hits for the Braves.
