Carolina Mudcats (23-24)
Thursday
Carolina continued their extended losing streak, dropping two games to Myrtle Beach on Thursday. In the first game, the Pelicans took the win 5-3. Yean Carlos Gil had a rough start, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out only one. Overall, the Mudcats pitching walked 8 batters on the day, so getting out with only 5 runs allowed seems a blessing. Joey Meneses did have a walk and a single on the day as well.
In the night-cap, Myrtle Beach doubled up Carolina, 6-3. Sean Furney got hit hard early, giving up 6 runs over 4 innings, allowing 8 hits and walking 4. The Mudcats offense did have a good day. Keith Curcio gathered two hits. Joseph Odom and Connor Lien each had a walk and a double on the day. Sal Giardina also had a double. The offense has been absent since the bus crash, so this was a pleasant showing as the Mudcats had 10 on base in the game.
