Atlanta Braves Trade John Cornely to Red Sox

The Atlanta Braves have reportedly traded rookie RP John Cornely to the Boston Red Sox today for cash considerations.

The folks at MLB Trade Rumors reported the news of the trade just moments ago.

Seeing as this is a deal that is bringing cash back to Braves, one has to wonder what the Braves could plan to do with it. It was obvious the Braves were not going to hold on to Cornely after the promotion to Williams Perez and corresponding move that saw Eric Stults move to the bull pen.

Coupled with those moves, Cody Martin was sent back down to Gwinnett to develop as a starter. The recent signing of Nick Masset made the decision that much easier.

Cornely saw just one inning with the Braves this season. However, he was effective in Double-A Mississippi last year. This season was his first season at any level higher than Double-A, primarily at Gwinnett.

Best of luck to Cornely in Boston.
