Just what the doctor ordered! The Atlanta Braves shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 on Tuesday night. One day after the Braves were pretty much embarrassed on their home field against the same team.
Shelby Miller pitched another great game as he was the first Braves pitcher in 2015 to last over seven innings. Miller pitched a complete game shutout while only giving up three hits, one walk and totaled eight strikeouts. He is now 4-1 for the season with a 1.66 ERA and clearly the Braves best pitcher right now.
“A complete game shutout, two hits…today was the perfect example of a lot of great stuff, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told reports. “First pitch strike, every time we scored runs, he had shut down innings and also pitching with a lead.”
A.J. Pierzynski was behind the dish for the Braves to catch Miller. These two were teammates for a period of time in 2014 with the Cardinals and looks like they will continue their relationship. At the plate, Pierzynski went 1-4 with a RBI and a walk. He’s now batting .344 in 2015.
“A.J. called a great game, the defense played great and obviously our offense came out and put up a lot of runs to give us a good cushion early,” Miller said. “We just have to tip our cap to the offense.”

Offensively, Atlanta came out swinging with 12 hits and nine runs scored.
Freddie Freemancontinues to swing a hot bat as he went 3-4 on Tuesday with his fifth home run of the season, two RBIs, three runs scored and a walk. Freeman is now batting .301 for the 2015 season.
Another hitter who has been great for the Braves is Kelly Johnson. He went 2-3 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. Johnson now leads the team in home runs (seven) and RBIs (seventeen). He also had an accomplishment on Tuesday…
“Kelly Johnson getting his 1,000 hit as an original Brave and now he comes back one more time with us and gets his 1,000th hit, that must be great for him,” Gonzalez said.
Johnson was originally drafted by the Braves in the 1st round of the 2000 draft, 38th overall. He was with the organization until 2009. Now back with the team, the 33-year-old is finding his groove.
“It was a fastball on the inner half and a 3-2 count,” Johnson said after the game. “With guys on base like that, you really just want to put the barrel on the ball. I’m glad it jumped off the bat and just a good game all the way around.”
The Braves lost game one to the Phillies in horrific fashion on Monday, won overwhelming on Tuesday…what is in store for Wednesday?
“He gave us a chance to give the bullpen a night off and now we go into tomorrow to try to win a series which we haven’t done in a while,” Gonzalez said about Miller and Tuesday nights win.
