ROME BRAVES

More from Tomahawk Take

Rome fell again to a bunch of Tourists from Asheville, 6-3 despite a late scramble by the home-standing Braves.  They spread out 6 hits with Wigberto Nevarez getting 2 of the 3 RBI.  Ozhaino Albies went hitless again last night (0-4), though scored via a walk.  Braxton Davidson was 0-3.

Alas, this game was the only one that prevented an organizational sweep on the night!

CAROLINA MUDCATS

After getting no-hit on Thursday, the team bounced back with a 6-4 win over the Salem Red Sox, busting out 11 hits in the process.  DH and leadoff hitter Sean Godfrey went 3-4, 3B Carlos Franco was 2-3 as was Catcher Jose Briceno.  Nearly everyone in the lineup had a hit as well.

Lucas Sims started, going six innings for 2 runs (both earned), just 2 hits allowed (one a 2-run jack), and K’d 4 against 2 walks.  Very nicely done.

MISSISSIPPI BRAVES

If was wild, but a win nonetheless as both teams kept throwing haymakers with a bunch of crooked numbers on the scoreboard.  Mississippi outlasted Tennessee 8-7 in Southern League action Friday night.

The M-Braves had several hits (9), but also took advantage of a bunch of walks (6).  Rio Ruiz got a hit in 5 trips; Mallex Smith took a 0-4 collar with 3 Ks, though walked and then stole 2nd and 3rd before being thrown out at the plate on an infield grounder.

K.D. Kang homered for the Braves in a 2-3 night with 2 RBI.  That ended up being just enough to get the win.  Catcher Chris O’Dowd also went 2 for 3.

Tyrell Jenkins had a rough start:  didn’t get out of the second inning.  His ERA won’t show the damage from that 5-run 2nd thanks to two errors, but the Smokies got still 3 hits and 2 walks in that crazy inning (4 hits overall).

GWINNETT BRAVES

The Braves defeated the Durham Bulls 5-4 in walk-off fashion after a 9th inning comeback, and then 11 innings overall.

Todd Cunningham: 2-5 (double, steal); Jose Peraza 1-3; Joe Benson threw a runner out at home; Pedro Ciriaco… have a night, kid… 4-6 with 2 RBI, which included the game winner.

Manny Banuelos pitched 3.2 innings and gave up 1 earned (2 overall) on 3 hits, but walked 4 while striking out 3.  David Carpenter (the other one) pitched an excellent job in relief:  2.1 innings, 1 BB, 3 K.

Donnie Veal, Andrew Kurcz and John Cornely all did very well in relief.  Brady Feigl actually blew a save opportunity in the 9th by allowing 2 runs (1 hit, 2 walks).  Keep an eye on Cornley – he’s flying under the radar, but was great in AA last year, too.

Matthew Kaminski, Organist Extraordinaire

[ Ed. note: Yes, even the New York media has noticed the exploits of Kaminski, the Turner Field organist-in-chief.  In case you’re not familiar with his work, he’s been known to play such ditties as the them song from the Movie/TV Show M*A*S*H when opposing players are hit by a pitch (that song’s title is “Suicide is Painless”).  So here’s some of the bits from last night – see the link for the full treatment… and audio. ]

Which walk-up song did famed Atlanta Braves organist pick for Mets hitters? Here’s the whole lineup

MIKE VORKUNOV / NJ.COM

ATLANTA — Matthew Kaminski is the organist at Turner Field and one the most famed organist in professional sports. He’s got 9,703 Twitter followers (and counting).

And he takes a lot of care in picking the appropriate walk-up song for each opposing player. With the Mets in town this weekend, we thought it would be fun to collect the songs he chose.

Here you go, listen away.

(Juan Lagares, that is)

SS Wilmer Flores – this obviously impacted his game on Friday.
