One of the Atlanta Braves top prospect, Braxton Davidson – actually eighth on Tomahawk Take’s list, ninth on MLB.com’s prospect list for Braves – blasted a solo homer in the opening game of the 2015 season.
Davidson was the Braves first round draft pick in 2014 (32nd overall) out of T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville, North Carolina. Â The 18-year-old is currently playing for the Rome Braves, the Single-A affiliate to the Atlanta Braves.
In 2014, Davidson started out with the Braves Rookie team in the Gulf Coast League. Â He batted .243/.400/.324 with eight RBIs, a triple, seven doubles, 23 runs scored and 22 walks. Â In played in 37 games in that league before being called up to the Danville Braves. Â Danville is a step above the Gulf Coast League but still considered Rookie ball. Â He appeared in 13 games and batted .167/.348/.222 with three RBIs, two doubles, one run scored and nine walks.

The 6’2″, 210 pounder plays outfield and first base.  On opening night for the Rome Braves he played right field.  He went 1-3 at the plate with the home run, a walk, a called strike three strikeout and a fly out to left field in foul territory.  The Rome Braves did lose the game 4-3.
Davidson still needs plenty of time to develop into the player he will become.  When Alan forecasted the Braves organizational depth chart a few days ago, he mentioned an estimated time of arrival date of 2017 for Davidson.  That seems highly unlikely when you first think about it since he’s only 18-years-old but if he can produce at the Single-A level and is moved up to Double-A this year.  Then in 2016 play in Double and Triple-A, I guess a 2017 date isn’t that bad of a guess.  Again though, it all depends on how he develops and plays on the field.
The Braves minor league system has a lot to look forward to after the offseason trades and signings.  Davidson will be able to play on winning teams and hopefully play with guys that he’ll one day play with in Atlanta.
As the season moves on, we’ll do our best to keep you updated on the Atlanta Braves and all of the minor league teams.
