After a busy offseason that saw such offensive stalwarts as
Jason Heyward,
Justin Upton, and
Evan Gattistraded away, many assumed the Braves would be in for a rough 2015 and possibly even a rough 2016 as they re-stocked their minor league system. As the team has shown in spring training, there are very some signs that this could be more than a rough season for the Braves.
In 1991, I was a young fan who was hopeful for the Braves to return to .500. Coming into 1991, the Braves had not finished above .500 since the first year I started following the team, in 1983. In fact, that team had lost more than 90 games in 5 of those 7 seasons since the last .500+ season. That team made some moves in 1990 and the offseason leading into 1991 that set them up, but at the time, those moves didn’t exactly strike anyone as leading to what would transpire in the 1991 season
I took the time to review both squads, and I think the similarities are interesting. Hopefully you’ll enjoy!
