Our friend Kyle Tait, the radio voice of the Mississippi Braves, gives us news from the AA Southern League about former Atlanta Braves great…
"PEARL, MS — In conjunction with The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Mississippi Braves announced that Chipper Jones was named to the Southern League’s 2015 Hall of Fame class earlier today. The 2015 class consists of 12 members as elected by a panel of 30 voters.Jones was a member of the 1992 record-setting Greenville Braves club. He hit .346 in 67 games with the ’92 G-Braves. Jones was a large part the most successful season in Double-A Braves history. The 1992 club won 100 games, becoming the first team in Southern League history to reach such a feat, en route to the Southern League Championship. Jones posted 17 doubles, 11 triples, nine homers and 42 RBI with the Double-A club. Jones was named to the 1992 Southern League All-Star team, and he was also named Double-A Player of the Year."
This is obviously not the only Hall of Fame announcement Braves fans are expecting to see for the former 1st overall pick from 1990, but the 8-time All-Star and former MVP (1999) will have to wait a couple more years before Cooperstown calls.

Chipper’s minor league career was predictably quick and limited
. As an 18-year-old (
he turns 43 next month
) he saw 44 games as a GCL Braves, 136 games in 1991 with Macon in the Sally League, split time between Durham and Greenville in 1992, then saw a full season in 1993 with Richmond in the International League.
Jones’ best minor league results actually were with that AA Greenville Southern League squad as noted above, which included a robust 11 triples and 9 homers in those 67 games (.961 OPS). It was a short appearance, but one that was certainly noteworthy for his success and the obvious success of that team.
Congratulations from us to Chipper Jones – I have a strong feeling that we will still be saying that a lot over the next couple of seasons.
