Braves’ second-base battle may be most compelling of spring

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Very true, the Atlanta Braves second base positional battle will be very enticing this Spring Training but that may not be the most compelling.  Now that the center field position is wide open, I’m looking forward to seeing that battle play at the most.  Guys with not that much MLB playing time but lots of minor league experience will be going head-to-toe for this starting spot.  With all the trades and signings this offseason, Spring Training will at least be exciting.

"Given the options at second base, which include six players who weren’t on Atlanta’s Opening Day 2014 roster, manager Fredi Gonzalez may need them in those shirts as he gets to know the candidates.“It think it’s wide-open,” he said. “It really is.”That wasn’t the gameplan when the Braves signedAlberto Callaspo in December to a one-year, $3 million contract. The 31-year-old would man the position until Jose Peraza, co-winner of the team’s Minor League Player of the Year award last season, had seen enough time on the farm to take the job.But then Atlanta acquired Jace Peterson in the deal that sent Justin Upton to the Padres and they brought back veteran Kelly Johnson on a minor-league, as well as Eric Young Jr., who has primarily been an outfielder, but has also seen time at second."

Braves officials: Winter weather won’t slow down SunTrust Park

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The new stadium and 2017 will be here before we know it.  The east coast has been dealing with recent winter storms most of February but supposedly it will not slow down the construction of the new entertainment center.

"Cobb’s recent brush with some mild winter weather will not slow down work on the new Atlanta Braves stadium, Braves officials say.Mike Plant, executive vice president of business operations for the Braves, said a few hours of work might be lost, but overall, both the $672 million stadium and the $400 million mixed-use development remain on schedule.“We’re on schedule, where we need to be with the ballpark,” Plant said. “We’ve got a lot of activity going on with the mixed-use, and again, we’re robust and encouraged.”"
