Gomes, Braves agree on one-year contract
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: John Hart seems to know what he wants and when he wants it. Though to some fans disapproval, Hart continues to make things happen. With every more the Braves make this offseason, it seems like more and more fans are jumping off the cliff. Before you go and do that, how about we wait for this team to show us what they have on the field instead of judging what’s on paper.
"Thus, president of baseball operations John Hart was certainly pleased on Thursday night, when Gomes agreed on terms for a one-year, $4 million contract that includes a $3 million vesting option for the 2016 season."
"“Jonny Gomes is a player we targeted early,” Hart said. “We look at not only what he can do on the field, which we like, but also the intangibles he provides. He’s been on winners. He’s got a good makeup. He loves the game of baseball and he plays with a passion. He wears it right on his heart. So we feel like we got a guy who will provide on the field and set a good example of how to play the game.”“Gomes is a guy who has always been in demand,” Hart said. “While he might not have ever been the star player, he’s always been a guy you want to have on your club. He holds himself accountable and he plays the game with his hair on fire.”"
Report: Braves, Jonny Gomes agree to one-year deal
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Jonny Gomes…huh. Well, only thing the Braves have is a potential veteran leader in the clubhouse…for one year (possibly two). What if you were given this job? You have one year to be with our team, can you go into a brand new club house and take it over to be a leader? That’s a tough position for any employee. But I think if one man can do it, it’s probably Jonny Gomes.
"The 34-year-old hit .234 with a .320 on-base percentage, six home runs and 35 RBI last season, splitting time with the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. He was traded to Oakland along with Jon Lester at July’s trade deadline.Mark Bowman of MLB.com reported on Tuesday that the Braves were pursuing Gomes as a potential left-field platoon mate with Zoilo Almonte."
Ross Wilson, Ryan Klesko headline Atlanta Braves Caravan stops in Birmingham, Montgomery
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves Caravan continues up and down the east/south coast….though no where close to myself or any of our Tomahawk Take members. If you live close enough, I recommend heading to the Academy Sports to get an autograph, chat with some players and just enjoy the atmosphere. The Caravan stops in Birmingham and Montgomery next week.
"The Caravan — during which fans can meet and get autographs from current and former players, coaches, broadcasters and other team officials — stops at Academy Sports and Outdoors at the Village at Lee Branch from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday. Headlining that group is former Hoover High School and Alabama star Ross Wilson, currently a minor-leaguer with the Braves. Also at the Birmingham stop are reliever Ian Thomas and Braves alumni Albert Halland Wes Helms. Hall, a Birmingham native, played for Atlanta from 1981-88.The Montgomery Caravan visit takes place Academy Sports and Outdoors on Eastchase Parkway from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Headlining that group is Braves alumRyan Klesko, a power-hitting first baseman for Atlanta in the 1990s.Also at the Montgomery stop are third-base coach Bo Porter and minor-league pitchers Tyrell Jenkins and Braeden Schlehuber. Jenkins was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Jason Heyward trade."
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: CBS talks about the 2015 Atlanta Braves and their fantasy value. They look into individual players such as Alex Wood, Freddie Freeman and Mike Minor. With the big trades this offseason, many are questioning our offensive capabilities…this will definitely effect fantasy values of the Atlanta Braves players.
