The Atlanta Braves released a series of new photos this week of work actively in progress at the Cobb County construction site. Oddly enough, you could almost look at the incredible collection of young blood added to the Braves’ farm system and equate that to this stadium project: both are works in progress.
Let’s take a quick tour. Full photos are available from the atlantabraves.com. Photo credits are to the team; click each to view in full resolution.
Under Construction
Looking east. Gas line relocation is complete. The “pond” at lower-left center is for drainage. It appears that grass has been planted in several places to reduce the run-off from winter rains.
Looking toward the west. As promised, the entire area is under construction simultaneously. This will not be a “stadium first, then everything else later” deal. The idea is to demonstrate right away a full-services development of shops, restaurants, hotels, apartments, and stadium. That will also serve to help Cobb County start to recoup the investment of their residents as quickly as possible.
This next shot shows detail of the east end – where the stadium will ultimately be placed. Right now it’s a staging area for a whole lot of equipment and … perhaps foundational work?
One more shot: this is the eastern extent of the development area – which currently to be serving as ‘Construction HQ’ with temporary buildings having been brought in for the administrative needs of the contractors.
To the right is the Boy Scouts building… they’ll have fun raising money via parking concessions in the future. At the top left is the headquarters of Genuine Parts – a ten acre location that the Braves recently bought to pave for parking. The team told Channel 11 that they are still “looking to acquire parking spaces on land that is not necessarily owned by us,” (Braves VP Derek) Schiller said. “So we are working with various companies and interests around that area that may have parking spaces.”
As reported last month, that won’t include spaces at Cumberland Mall, but there’s still time to work through the options.
So even in Winter, things are well underway!
