Nick Markakis Gets A Bonus And Has The Chance To Get Richer

The Atlanta Braves new outfielder Nick Markakis will receive a $2 million dollar signing bonus prior to January 1st of 2015.  This is part of his four-year, $44 million contract that he signed with the Braves on December 3rd.

Markakis brings a lot of positives with him to the Braves…one of which is his consistent hitting.  His lowest batting average in his nine year career is .271 in 2013 and highest was .306 in 2008.  Want to know his career on-base percentage?  Well it’s .358.

He doesn’t just get on those white bags a lot – he also doesn’t strikeout, he brings veteran leadership to the clubhouse, and great defensive skills.

Markakis can earn an additional $50,000 for making the All-Star team, winning the MVP award, earning the World Series MVP honor or getting selected the comeback player of the year.  Also in his contract, is an incentive where if he wins a Gold Glove or the League Championship Series MVP he receives $25,000 apiece.

With incentives like these, Markakis could be in to cash in big in 2015.  He’s already receiving $10.5 million a year for the next four seasons.
