Brandon Beachy Drawing Interest From Teams, Including Atlanta Braves

On Tuesday night, the Atlanta Braves informed starting pitcher Brandon Beachy that they were going to release him in the form of a non-tender decision.  This allows him to be a free agent and to sign with any team for the 2015 season.

Beachy is still recovering from second ligament-replacement surgery, better known as Tommy John surgery.  He will not be ready to start pitching until close to mid-season at the earliest.

That doesn’t stop teams from showing interest in this talented 28-year-old.  According to Chris Cotillo, 10 teams have expressed the want for this pitcher to be on their team.

Just because the Braves non-tendered Beachy on Tuesday doesn’t mean they are interested in bringing him back.  They could still work out a deal with him as he hopes to return from his second Tommy John.  Beachy is expected to land a major league deal and supposedly has multiple offers on the table.

Beachy and Kris Medlen will seek to join pitcher Chris Capuano as the only major leagues to come back and pitch at a high level for a sustained period after a second Tommy John surgery.

During his five year MLB career, Beachy’s best season was in 2011 when he started 25 games for the Braves.  Many were expecting big things from him in the 2014 season but re-injured his elbow during Spring Training and didn’t pitch at all in 2014.
