Atlanta Braves 2015 spring training home schedule posted

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes: The countdown begins to the 2015 season for the Atlanta Braves fans as 2014 didn’t end the way we would of liked it to.  Frank Wren is gone, Greg Walker is gone and a few other pieces around the organization are now gone.  Lets see what the team of John’s and Bobby will do this offseason to improve this team.

"We’ve posted the Atlanta Braves 2015 spring training home schedule, listing the games the team will be playing out of Champion Stadium at DisneyWorld. You can view the home schedule here. The Atlanta Braves train at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in DisneyWorld, playing games at Champion Stadium. It’s a little different setup than most spring-training complexes, as access to training fields is limited (there’s a lot going on at the sprawling complex in March) and Disney pretty much runs operations."

Braves interim GM likely to stay put, Gonzalez returning as manager in 2015

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes:  Fredi Gonzalez will stick around as the Manager of the Atlanta Braves for at least one more season.  He will be in the final year of his contract and given one last shot to prove he’s worthy of sticking around.  John Schuerholz, Bobby Cox and John Hart seem to believe him Fredi so we’ll have to trust their judgment.

"Schuerholz indicated when Wren was fired on Sept. 22 that Hart, who had been a part-time consultant, was his first choice to be the new GM. But the former executive with Cleveland and Texas is 66, and not interested in a long-term commitment. That could mean a mentoring partnership with Coppolella, who is 36 and considered a bright baseball mind. The other rumored possibility is a return to Atlanta by Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore. The timing doesn’t appear right, though, with the Royals in the playoffs and Moore having two additional years on his contract."

Free Agent Profile: Justin Masterson

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes: Are the Braves in the running for more starting pitching next season?  I’d say yes.  With Ervin Santana and Aaron Harang probably not resigning with Atlanta and Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy trying to recover from another Tommy John Surgery, the Braves seem to be short on pitching again.  Justin Masterson could be a great fill in for the Braves in 2015.

"If the medicals check out, a team could very well come away with one of the best pitching bargains of the winter.  Back in January, when Masterson was coming off of his career year, Tim Dierkes pegged his extension value around $65-$85MM over a five year stretch.  Like any free agent, the 6’6″ hurler has his question marks, but he could be a very solid value after an offseason of rest.Last last month, Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com wondered aloud if Masterson could be a fit for the Cubs.  His history with former Red Sox GM and current Cubs president Theo Epstein could lead to a union and, as Mooney notes, coach Chris Bosio has a track record for taking his pitchers to the next level.  Speaking of the Red Sox, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe wrote back in August that Boston will have interest in Masterson in the offseason.Outside of those old friends, teams in bigger parks with pitching needs like the Twins, Angels, Marlins, and Braves might be in the mix for Masterson."
