Tomahawk Take Editor Notes: Have the Braves bats finally woke up? We continue to get glimpses of what this team can possibly be with the offense but then it evaporates in the next few games. La Stella stays hot, Braves drop Angels, 7-3
Tomahawk Take Editor Notes: Mike Minor started the game but the bullpen stepped up huge on Sunday night. Anthony Vavaro threw two complete innings to close out the game. Minor matched his career high in hits with 11 and gave up three runs in five innings. Jason Heyward had a huge game when he made two spectacular catches in right field and added a home run at the plate.
"Manager Fredi Gonzalez says Tommy La Stella is playing as if he is looking for another promotion. That’s how comfortable the rookie second baseman has looked in his first three weeks in the major leagues.La Stella had three hits, including a two-run double in Atlanta’s four-run sixth, and the Braves beat Hector Santiago and the Los Angeles Angels 7-3 on Sunday night.La Stella is hitting .411 with at least two hits in nine of his 16 games.“I think La Stella thinks there’s another league, the way he carries himself,” Gonzalez said. “So it doesn’t surprise me that he feels this comfortable right away.”"
Los Angeles Angels can’t hold off Atlanta Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor Notes: Mike Trout continued his amazing season during the series and added three hits for Los Angeles on Sunday, including a home run. Erick Ayber had to leave the game for the Angels when he experience a sore left hip. The Braves will now take on the Phillies starting on Monday with the Braves sending out Julio Teheran for game 1.
"Santiago (0-7) allowed four runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings. The left-hander, who was acquired from the White Sox in a three-team trade in December, struck out four and walked two.“Hector, really, for five innings was really on top of things,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “Things unraveled a bit but I still think Hector pitched a really strong ballgame.”With one out in the sixth, Santiago walked B.J. Upton. The Braves then scored four runs on five consecutive hits that left Santiago feeling as if he was battling more than the Atlanta hitters.“Luck turned their way,” Santiago said. “I feel like the better pitch I made the luckier they got. I made some really good pitches right there. I can’t do anything about that.”"
Braves sign pick Braxton Davidson
Tomahawk Take Editor Notes: I believe David O’Brien was the first to report this but the Braves have had major discussions on signing their first round selection in the 2014 draft, Braxton Davidson. I’m not sure if ESPN has jumped the gun on this or not but every thing I’ve read so far is that he hasn’t signed just yet but will.
"The Atlanta Braves have signed outfielder Braxton Davidson, the team’s first-round pick in last week’s draft.Davidson, from TC Roberson High School in Arden, North Carolina, was the No. 32 overall selection in the draft.The 17-year-old Davidson (6-3, 205) was regarded as one of the top power-hitting prospects in the draft. He turns 18 on Wednesday."
