Ian Thomas is one of the new faces on the Braves this season

The Braves announced their 25 man roster today after the Futures Game in Rome (which the Future Stars won 13-4, btw). There aren’t very many surprises on the roster, especially after Atahualpa Severino‘s disasterous inning in his outing today.

The Braves are electing to go with 4 starters, 8 relievers, and 13 position players; unlike last season, the team has (wisely) opted to go with 2 middle infielders rather than 5 outfielders.

In total, nine new Braves join the OD roster compared to last season, and with the exception of Gattis for Laird, the opening day lineup will remain the same.Schlosser will pitch in long-relief, with David Hale getting the fourth spot in the rotation, as the Braves hope to have Ervin Santana ready to start whenever the team finally actually needs a fifth starter. David O’Brien‏ @ajcbravesHale gets fourth starter job. Schlosser in long relief.  Ian Thomas makes the roster, despite being taken out of today’s game after being hit by a batted ball. David O’Brien‏@ajcbravesline drive hit Thomas in a, well, part of his hip that had a little cushion. He’s good to go. Just came out for precautionary reasons. The Braves now head to Milwaukee where they will play their season opener against the Brewers on Monday at 2:10 p.m. Eastern. It’s almost time! Real baseball at last!
