The Great American Race, the Daytona 500, took place on Sunday with a gut wrenching fan experience heading into the 2014 NASCAR season. Chipper Jones has awesome been a fan of the sport as he’s been to a couple races, has been the Grand Marshall to start the race and tweeted about NASCAR many times. But did you know other Atlanta Braves players are fans as well?
But before we get into who on the Braves team was attending this great event, take a look at Chipper’s predictions prior to the race…
I got Denny Hamlin winning the 500! I'm pulling for the 24 though.

I would love to see the 14 win it! Smoke is the modern day Earnhardt. Sentimental favorite. Best to have never won it. Maybe it's time!

This event is always the celebrity turn out – turn your head one way and you see another star. Faces I didn’t expect to see were the ones of Atlanta Braves players. Relief pitcher David Carpenter, closer Craig Kimbrel, second basemen Dan Uggla and the hugger Freddie Freeman. If you’re not a fan of NASCAR, that’s fine, some aren’t but the stage was set and the crowd was there to put on a great show…….Until the rain came. With 38 laps complete in the Daytona 500, mother nature stormed down on the track with a nonstop rain, bad thunderstorms in the area and tornado warnings.
The weather and clean up of the track was a total of over six hours.
Always hated rain delays! Still do

I think @NASCAR needs to invest in some domed tracks. I'm sure it's pretty cheap! #NOT

But after those long and tedious hours of waiting, we got word that racing would be starting back up!
Looks like @NASCARONFOX will be back on at 8 pm #NASCARprimetime

During the time waiting though, I decided to send David Carpenter a tweet and see what he was up to.
@DCarpenter29 Did you enjoy the #Daytona500? Are you waiting it out?
— TomahawkTake (@TomahawkTakeFS) February 24, 2014
@TomahawkTakeFS still waiting on an exact restart time. Can't wait! #NASCARprimetime

Sitting inside the suites at Daytona, Carpenter had a great view of the Daytona 500 trophy.

Peter Moylan chimed in on the action to “try” and give Chipper a little stab.
Hey @RealCJ10 why can't they left turn in the rain?
— Pete Moylan (@PeterMoylan) February 24, 2014
And then we started racin’ again! Around 8:30pm Sunday evening, the cars were back on the track ready to complete the first race of the season.
Big time goosebumps when the green flag dropped!!! #NASCARprimetime

To the fans excitement, Dale Earnhardt Jr won the Daytona 500 in grand fashion. To say the fans were delighted is an understatement.
Atta boy Junior! Whatta race! Worth the wait.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) February 24, 2014
Ol Sr. is up in heaven with a grin from ear to ear. Always cool when he wins in Daytona.

And with his victory, Dale Jr joined us on Twitter!
