News came through twitter this afternoon that the Atlanta Braves have released OF/INF Mat Gamel from the organization. Gamel was signed by the Braves back in December to compete for the extra bat off the bench.
The 28-year-old was a 4th round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2005. With the Brewers, he was a very highly ranked prospect but multiple injuries caused his stock to drop at many times.
The Braves and fans thought they possibly got a steal with this signing because of how talented he was once projected. Two knee injuries in the past two years and know a setback to one of those knee injuries has caused the Braves to release him.
The #Braves have released Mat Gamel. He reinjured his right knee (two ACL surgeries the past two years) last week.

If you read my post earlier today about visiting spring training, in the comments Alan had asked me if I saw Gamel, I had told him I didn’t see him but could have overlooked him. Well, I guess this cleared it up and my eyes were accurate.
